Philanthropists at heart
David Malcolm is a San Diego-based entrepreneur, real estate expert, and community leader. Having a long and successful career in real estate, he knows the importance of giving back. Among his various philanthropic endeavors, he is most passionate about helping the homeless get their lives back on track. He served on the Board of Directors of St. Vincent de Paul Management (part of Father Joe’s Villages) for 31 years, including four years as Chairman.
Along with his wife Annie, he is a strong supporter of many charitable organizations and has been on the boards of several higher education institutions.
He and Annie also support two San Diego gymnasiums and other charitable non-profits. In 2021, they will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary.
PAST & FUTURE ENDEAVORS
Some of the other organizations the Malcolms have supported through the David Malcolm Family Trust range from the Grossmont Hospital Foundation to South Bay Community Services to the Zoological Society of San Diego to the USS Midway Museum to the South Bay Historical Society.
In 2021, the Malcolms directed their funds to a single, transformational gift to The San Diego Foundation’s Community Scholars Initiative, which was announced on March 22, 2021. Their donation will help 38 first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students by providing college scholarships and wraparound services that bolster academic achievement.
“We are proud to support the Community Scholars Initiative and help dozens of students on their path to a diploma and a successful life,” said the Malcolms.
The Malcolms also launched a private scholarship, The David Malcolm Scholarship, for students who have overcome obstacles to educational achievement – personal, family, demographic or situational – and require help to continue on the path to success.
